Synopsis:
Friendly Fire is the new poetry collection by Jennifer Maiden, regarded as one of Australia's most perceptive and thoughtful poets. The poems in this collection are like finely wrought essays, offering acerbic portraits of presidents and politicians, media celebrities and social bullies. It combines satirical poems, like the justly acclaimed ‘George Jeffery' poems on the US invasion of Iraq, with exquisite meditations on nature and her closest personal relationships, particularly with her daughter Katharine.
Jennifer Maiden has won the N.S.W. Premier's Prize for Poetry (twice), the Victorian Premier's Prize for Poetry, the Christopher Brennan Award for lifetime achievement, and many other awards.
